Event Name:  St. Pat's Battle of the Bands Night
Website Address:  http://www.stpatsinfivepoints.com/media.php
Place:  Five Points Pub
Time:  8:00 pm
Description of Event::  St. Pats Battle of the Bands Night 3 Will Rock for March 5 Who will be the final contender for a spot on the Time Warner Cable-Free Times stage at the St. Pats in Five Points festival on March 15? Witness the fun and friendly competition yourself and jet to Five Points Pub on Wednesday, March 5 at 8 p.m. for Round 3 of the Battle of the Bands competition. Three Midlands groups-Rob Lindsey & the Friendly Confines, Cats and Cobras, and Lucas War Hero-will strum, drum and wail for the ultimate opportunity to perform in front of thousands at the 26th annual St. Pats in Five Points festival. Battle of the Bands Schedule Night 3-Wednesday, March 5 FINALS-Thursday, March 6 Winner plays at St. Pats in Five Points-Saturday, March 15 No cover charge and great drink specials, all in the name of live local music? Clearly, this Battle of the Bands competition is the only place to be on Wednesday night. The music of Rob Lindsey & the Friendly Confines is like an audio lozenge for all the harsh garbage that enters our ears. Lindsey's mic-perfect vocals, with a little help from his friends, serve to renew an appreciation in the often blasé singer-songwriter genre. Columbia foursome Cats and Cobras delivers fun pop-punk with vocals that suggest an affinity for Interpol and/or dance band Greenskeepers. Don't you dare arrive expecting a sit-down show. To Lucas War Hero, a slurred "Free Bird" request is not ironic. This West Columbia band hitches to the Southern heart in all of us, plowing through country and rock 'n roll songs with authentic grit. Thumbs up to Columbia's Shallow Palace, who won Round 2 of the Battle of the Bands. The winner of Round 3 will face Shallow Palace and Round 1 winners Red Emotion Riot in the Finals battle on Thursday, March 6.

Event Name:  The Mummy Who Would Be King
Website Address:  www.columbiamuseum.org
Place:  Columbia Museum of Art
Time:  2:00 pm
Description of Event::  It is a tantalizing idea: a shriveled mummy that has lain neglected on a dusty museum shelf at Niagara Falls could be the remnants of a long-lost Egyptian pharaoh. While a trail of clues hints at how the looted mummy made its way to North America a century and a half ago, archaeologists go to Emory University to employ the latest imaging and DNA techniques in hopes of confirming the body's hidden identity. Their results provide compelling evidence that the mummy may indeed be that of Ramesses I, founder of ancient Egypt's most illustrious dynasty. This amazing story of historical intrigue and forensic science concludes as the mummy takes its rightful place alongside royal relatives in an Egyptian museum, a fitting solution to a 3,000 year-old puzzle. Event Name:  Ladies' Night Out
Website Address:  www.thecolonialcenter.com
Place:  The Colonial Center
Time:  8:00 pm
Description of Event::  Keith Sweat, born in Harlem, New York City, has long been renowned as a true master of the slow jam. He has compiled five straight #1 R&B albums, a dozen top ten R&B singles which include seven #1's and four top-five pop singles. He began to dominate the urban music landscape with his triple-platinum debut Make it Last Forever, produced his first #1 "I Want Her". Other #1 singles include "Make You Sweat", "(There You Go) Tellin' Me No Again" from New Jack City, and "Why Me Baby" (featuring LL Cool J). Keith, an avid performer, has had three decades of success and continues to wow audiences. Bell Biv DeVoe was formed in 1986 when Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe were members of the R&B group New Edition. Creating this trio unleashed a new voice; a fierce, provocative pop funk, sexier lyrics and vocals and overall harder sound which was revolutionary for music. They released this new sound in 1990 with Poison. The album's title track became an overnight smash, and it was followed by the equally successful "Do Me!" and the R&B hits "B.B.D. (Thought it Was Me)," "When Will I See You Smile Again?" and "Dope!". Tony! Toni! Tone!, the dynamic swing beat trio from Oakland, California, have proven themselves as durable guardians of the soul and funk tradition. Their broad appeal to both urban and contemporary audiences has succeeded in keeping their faith alive. From their smash album The Revival, which included hit singles "It Never Rains (In Southern California)" and the club dance tune "Feels Good", to their original R&B #1 hit "Little Walter", Tony! Toni! Tone! is the definition of innovative new age and soul. Added on 2/13/08 - Dru Hill with Sisqo
