| Description of Event:: |
In conjunction with exhibition Carolina Collects, the work of South Carolina native Constantine Manos is in the Mamie and William Andrew Treadway, Jr. Gallery. A Greek Portfolio represents an impromptu pictorial account of Manos' travels through rural Greece and the Greek islands. In frame after frame he reveals with warmth, feeling and understanding a way of life that had remained virtually unchanged for centuries, but was destined for extinction as the youth of these small country villages and secluded farms left for the opportunities in the city. |

Other major figures in the show include — Inness, Peale, Glackens, Saint-Aubin, Lucero, Cadmus, Boilly, Twombly, Wright of Derby and Diane Arbus. Decorative arts in the exhibition include fine American furniture, mid-century modern furniture, Tiffany glass and Chinese export porcelain. American Impressionist paintings, Southern art, contemporary photography and works on paper, French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings and sculpture, a stellar collection of American 19th century landscape paintings, and an impressive collection of 18th-19th century European paintings round out the exhibition.
