Description of Event::  8th annual motorcycle charity ride that starts and ends at Jack’s Custom Cycles in Lexington, South Carolina. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia has 300 bikers who ride 70 miles around Lake Murray to 4 local restaurants. The stops include: Vella’s in Chapin, River Winds Landing in Prosperity, Spinner’s Resort in Leesville, Boondocks in Gilbert and the ride will end at Jack’s Custom Cycles in Lexington with the last bike returning at 3 p.m. Bikers will enjoy a BBQ lunch by Blue Marlin Signature Catering, beverages and live entertainment from the IRON HORSE BAND. Each rider will have the chance to win a Harley Davidson, among a variety of other prizes. The cost is $25 per rider and $15 per passenger. As students prepare to go to school, Historic Columbia Foundation would like to welcome them back by providing an early 20th-century college experience at the historic Hampton-Preston Mansion, once home to two women’s colleges. Back to School with Chicora College will be held on Thursday, August 27 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Hampton-Preston Mansion, 1615 Blanding Street. The event will feature a tour of the new Chicora College dorm room exhibit, lawn games, and a scavenger hunt. Participants can try on fashionable early 20th-century clothing and take a peek into a typical Chicora College student trunk with hands-on items and activities that explore the life of a student in Columbia at the turn of the century. Participants will get hands-on training and exclusive site reviews illustrating the rehabilitation process as professional staff reviews terminology, tools, materials, best practices, and contact information for vendors who carry the materials needed for these projects.

Final Touches - August 29 – Architects John Milner Associates, Inc. (JMA) will review traditional paint composition and color as well as information about the influences of Andrew Jackson Downing in connection to the Wilson Family Home. Further topics will include paint failure, removal techniques, lead paint, caulking and hardware restoration practices and demonstrations.

The event will be held from noon until 2 p.m. and feature Victorian lawn games and hands-on activities which include crafting tea-time hats and learning the secret language of the fan. Participants also will learn about 19th- century tea parties, review proper tea etiquette, and take a brief tour of the Hampton-Preston Mansion.
