Palmetto Islands County Park offers year round enjoyment for the whole family with miles of bicycle trails, pedal boats, picnic facilities, and wide open spaces for favorite outdoor games.At Splash Island in Palmetto Islands County Park, thrill down a 200 ft. slide, squirm along a 16 ft. otter slide and splash around in sprays, waterfalls and geysers. Beachwalker Park, located on Kiawah Island, affords visitors access to a beautiful beach on a ridge barrier island. The park is operated through a cooperative effort of the Charleston County Council and the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission. Along the park's wide, sandy front beach is a 300 foot swimming area, staffed with lifeguards, that are seasonal in June, July, and August. Leading from the 170 car parking area through myrtles and dunes, visitors enjoy a convenient dunes boardwalk. Other park amenities include dressing areas, outdoor showers, restrooms, a picnic area, and snack bar, which is seasonal. Beach chair, raft, and umbrella rentals are available along the beachfront, and are seasonal as well. Open May - August 9am - 7pm daily, April and October 10am - 6pm weekends only, September 10am to 6pm daily, and March 10am to 6pm weekends only. Folly Beach County Park, on the west end of Folly Island, is 4000 feet of oceanfront beach. Lifeguards are on duty along a 600 ft. beachfront designated swimming area. (seasonally) Amenities include a 350 car parking lot, dressing areas, outdoor showers, restrooms, snack bar (seasonal), and picnic area. The park's beach chair and umbrella rentals are a welcome alternative to packing up one's own belongings. (These are seasonal).Open

James Island County Park is made for those adventurous naturalists who enjoy the experience of living outdoors. The park campground offers 125 recreational vehicle sites for overnight stays. For those who require a "civilized" environment, vacation cottages are available off the Stono River. The park also features a floating dock and 16 acres of lagoons, ponds and lakes. Equipment rentals include bikes, pedal boats, and kayaks. More information.

Isle of Palms, a popular beach for Charlestonians features white sandy expanses, dunes, and sea oats. Beautiful homes front on the blue Atlantic, and it is a pleasant beach to walk or jog. Isle of Palms County Park is conveniently located at the foot of the Isle of Palms connector. This facility offers 350 parking spaces, a dunes boardwalk, showers, restrooms, lifeguards, (seasonal) and vending. Beach access is also provided by a boardwalk in the center of downtown Isle of Palms. Parking is available along the street and in parking lots. Public dressing areas and restrooms are available. North Charleston Wannamaker County Park
has 1,015 acres with 576 acres embodying highlands and 439 acres composed of beautiful cypress wetlands. A pristine swamp, the Goose Creek Reservoir, provides mature cypress trees and a variety of wildlife. Over seven acres of grassed public meadow allows visitors to unwind and take in natural beauty. There is a 5 acre lagoon for strolls by the water. Two open-air group picnic shelters seat 120 and feature built in grills, volleyball, and horseshoe courts. Cypress Hall is an enclosed group shelter of 4,640 square feet. The Park Center houses a snack bar, screened porch , restrooms , a large patio, and a pedal boat rental area. A sunny day is well spent if you are on one of Charleston's sandy, white beaches. Swimming is only one of the many activities to do while enjoying the sand and surf. If you're in the mood for a traditional beach outing, sunbathing, relaxing in beach chairs under umbrellas, collecting shells and walking in the sand, your day is set.
