Around Town: Kershaw County

On the northeast side of Columbia lies beautiful Kershaw County. Its rich history is well-preserved and is a charming back drop for this growing area. Kershaw County includes the towns of Camden, Lugoff, Elgin, Bethune, and Liberty Hill. Access to Kershaw County from downtown Columbia is quickest via I-20 East (towards Florence), which also provides access to Ft. Jackson, Shaw Airforce Base and the town of Sumter. Visual art exhibits, music concerts (blues, chamber, gospel, bluegrass) live theatre (musicals, adult comedy, children's), classes and more can be enjoyed at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County, located at 810 Lyttleton Street in downtown Camden, South Carolina's oldest inland city. The five-acre complex includes three buildings to accommodate the Center's multi-disciplined programs. For more information about the Fine Arts Center, please call 803-425-7676, e-mail kcobb@fineartscenter.org or check out the FAC's website at www.fineartscenter.org. Hours are Monday-Friday, 12-6 pm and Saturdays by appointment.

The antique district of Camden boasts of rare treasures for the avid antique collector...from primitive to elegant! Markets and upscale shops feature antique delights that are unique and unusual..ranging in everything from glassware, silver, fine furniture, war collectibles, tea sets, musical instruments and more!

Kershaw County is nationally known for its annual steeplechase races. The Carolina Cup Steeplechase takes place in late March or early April, and the Colonial Cup Steeplechase takes place in the fall at the Springdale Race Course.
