North Charleston has quickly become the hotspot for residential building in the greater Charleston area. North Charleston is an incorporated city north of Charleston with a population of 89,000. The Charleston International Airport is located 12 miles from downtown Charleston, served by six commercial airlines and offering 162 inbound and outbound flights daily. It serves more than 1.6 million passengers each year. North Charleston is home to most of Greater Charleston's military population. The Charleston Air Force Base and the US Naval Weapons Station are accessed through North Charleston.
