Summerville's beauty is mirrored in her motto, "The Flower Town in the Pines." Since the early 1900's day tourists have flocked to the town during early spring to enjoy millions of spring blossoms, particularly azaleas, in private and public gardens, including the mid-town Azalea Park. It is the home of the Flowertown Festival, held annually each spring and attracting 10's of thousands of visitors.  The azalea gardens are stunning, as are most residences at this beautiful time of year. 

Summerville is located northwest of the City of Charleston and has become one of the most popular relocation destinations in the Charleston Metro area.  Why?  More affordable housing, good schools and great infrastructure.  Summerville's roads have kept pace with its development and traffic tie-ups are not as prevalent as in other areas. 

The Dorchester II School District serving Summerville is rated as having some of the best schools in the state. Summerville High School, whose football team is known as the "Green Wave" consistently fields one of the best teams in the state. The team's coach, John McKissick, has earned the distinction as the "winningest" coach in America with 530 wins, 127 losses, and 13 tie games.

Summerville participates in the Main Street, USA with a Downtown Restoration Enhancement and Management Corporation  (DREAM) and has thriving fine arts, sports, museum and preservation organizations. There are 700 local buildings on the National Historic Register. Ever mindful of her environment-based heritage, a "Tree City USA" flag adorns the pole in front of Town Hall along with Old Glory.
